ALL COMPOST PRODUCED IS USED, FOR FREE, BY OUR PARTNERS AT EACH LOCATION BELOW

Food scraps don’t have to be trucked out of town in order to be composted. In fact, by keeping compost local, we can more directly support local agriculture, with lower transportation costs, healther soils, and thus healthier plants and people. Check out our current composting locations:

Green Gate Farms: If you’re looking to join a CSA committed to growing both healthy food and a better, local community, Green Gate is the farm for you. We compost here in long, semi-static windrows.

Festival Beach Community Garden: Just kicked off this summer near downtown Austin, Festival Beach is already a wonderful community garden. We’re composting here with individual piles of material, and several members meet us every week to help place material. Special thanks to Emma, Jose, and Abel! For this site, we drive 10 miles each week and divert 3 yards of material each time — talk about reducing carbon emissions and improving the soil!

Austin Green Art Tarrytown Community Garden: Allen Schroeder started a large scale sheet composting experiment here just over a year ago, and we’ve now teamed up with him and Austin Green Art to expand the sheet composting even further. Ground that previously was only bare, sandy gravel with no topsoil is coming back to life in the form of 4′x20′ garden beds.
