School Composting Programs

Break It Down has started a dialogue with a local school to develop a composting curriculum to create and support a school composting program. Our goal is work with local schools to establish a program where students learn about the science of composting while actively engaged in the design, development, and on-going process of composting their schools organic materials.

We are currently reviewing TEKS criteria and organizing educational material to support Texas graduation requirements. In the long-term, our goal is to develop a process that can be implemented by any interested school. We also plan to combine this curriculum with an after-school youth development program to engage students beyond the classroom and promote civic responsibility as well as the connections between reducing waste, local agriculture, climate change, and community development.

Are you involved in a local Austin school? PTA President? Principal? Or are you an interested and active parent seeking a volunteering opportunity? Contact Break it Down – we’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas.
